Meet the bands you don’t know and catch up with those you do on your SoundWhiz headphones – audio with attitude.
Austin, TX – 2017 dates, October
There’s something surreal about massive music festivals held in the middle of big cities. Held in Zilker Park surrounded by Austin’s skyscrapers, this festival boasts 8 stages with 110 acts over two weekends. Once an old-school indie darling, the Austin City Limits festival is now drawing huge headliners from pop, rock, alternative, EDM, country, hip-hop, and R&B charts.
Manchester, TN – 2017 dates, June 8-11
“Welcome back to The Farm” is a phrase uttered with reverence by true Bonnaroovians. And yes, it actually is at a farm. No sound ordinance deadlines mean music plays long into the night. 90’s nostalgia bands play between current hits. Mid-40’s hippies pitch tents next to 2000’s frat boys, and yet somehow everyone gets along!
Indio, CA – 2017 dates, April 14-16 & 21-23
Head to the desert for two weekends of sunshine and spectacles, headliners and newcomers, camping and celebrities. Oft maligned as “for rich hipsters”. Coachella neither embraces nor pushes away the description. They simply focus on creating an inclusive experience. So if hipsters are your thing, rock on! If they’re not, enjoy the food, music, and art in your own way – no one will judge you for it.
Dover, DE – 2017 dates, June 15-18
The newest festival on this list. Started in 2012, it managed to draw Florence and the Machine, Deadmaus, and Mumford & Sons just 4 years later for their 2016 lineup. Camp in the beautiful woods of Dover and catch fireflies as the music drifts thru the trees.
New York City, NY – 2017 dates, June 2-4
NYC certainly brings the major stars. 2016 lineup included Kanye, The Strokes, The Killers, Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Haim – and we could go on and on. Plus get to sample food from famous NYC restaurants like Momofuku Milk Bar.
Chicago, IL – 2017 dates, Aug 3-6
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan, Lollapalooza is a three day urban oasis. Founded by the legendary Jane’s Addition singer, Perry Farrell, this festival combines one of the most epic rave EDM experiences in the country with seven other stages graced with the best of pop, rock, and alternative music.
Voodoo Music & Arts Experience *Still to come in 2016!
New Orleans, LA – Oct 28-31
Head to one of the best party and food cities in the country for an epic weekend. Headlining this year are Arcade Fire, The Weeknd, and Tool. And those three acts should clue you into the eclectic “ritual” experience that is Voodoo. And since it’s Halloween weekend, get ready for some amazing costumes!
