Music Festivals to Attend Before You Die: Part 2 – UK

music festival in the UK

“We’re back with our top music festivals to attend before you die – UK edition.”

The UK music festival scene = mud and mega-stars.
Meet the bands you don’t know and catch up with those you do on your SoundWhiz headphones – audio with attitude.

Bestival

Isle of Wight – 2017 dates, Sept 7-10

The kooky younger sister of the Isle of Wight Festival. Alternative and diverse, beyond the fantastic music you can gorge on a wide selection of vegetarian food, visit a dressing up tent and find the ‘secret stage’. In 2010, the festival set a new Guinness World Record when 55,000 attendees wore costumes.

Download Festival

Leicestershire – 2017 dates, June 9-11

The UK’s premiere rock and heavy metal festival. Five days of head-banging, hair-raising bands and the traditional muddy fields of UK music festivals. Classic groups like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are standard, but there’s tons of space to discover new bands.

Glastonbury Festival

Somerset – 2017 dates, June 21-25

A pilgrimage worthy festival if there ever was one. The mud, the music, the mischief. The vast hugeness of this festival is grounded by its center music stages, surrounded by art, food, theatre, and hedonism and bohemia galore.

Green Man Festival

Brecon Beacons – 2017 dates, Aug 17-20

The lush, open, Welsh countryside is home to one of the UK’s finest festivals. And this festival lives up to its “green” name as one of the top eco-friendly festivals in the world. Family friendly, inclusive, with an overarching theme of mysticism and a “get back to nature” attitude. The music selection fits in perfectly with the hippie atmosphere. 2016 lineup included Belle and Sebastian, Climbing Trees, Laura Marling, and Lush.

Isle of Wight Festival

Isle of Wight – 2017 dates, Summer TBA

The UK’s answer to Woodstock. In its 45 year history, the Isle of Wight stages have hosted Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Amy Winehouse, The Sex Pistols, and so many more. Four days of open-minded socializing, stunning views, and a true sense of community thru music.

Secret Garden Party

Cambridgeshire – 2017 dates, July 20-23

A magical, boutique music festival where DJs spin in treehouses, flash mobs can appear from seemingly nowhere, and music acts are as much performance art as pure musical transcendence. This is very much a “you had to be there to understand” type experience.

The Great Escape

Brighton – 2017 dates, May 18-20

A mecca for new music. It’s possible or even likely you won’t recognize anyone in their lineup, and that’s by design. So if you want to be the first to know and are ready for a music treasure hunt this is the festival for you. Hosted at around 50 different locations around Brighton from pubs to parks.
